What to Ask Before Hiring a Remodeling Contractor
A checklist for comparing contractors and estimates.
Whoever you hire, you're entering an agreement directly with them. Chicago Bathroom Remodels doesn't perform work, inspect contractors or guarantee outcomes, so these questions are yours to ask.
Licensing and insurance
- Ask for license information and verify it with the issuing authority
- Request a certificate of insurance
- Ask who performs plumbing and electrical work
Scope and estimate
- Is the scope written in detail?
- What allowances are included?
- How are unexpected conditions handled?
Permits and schedule
- Who obtains permits?
- What's the estimated start and duration?
- How long will the bathroom be unusable?
Payments and warranties
- What's the payment schedule?
- What warranty is offered, and in writing?
- How are change orders documented?
References
Ask for references from similar projects and, if possible, see completed work in person.
