West Loop bathroom remodels for lofts and condos

What limits a bathroom remodel in a converted loft or newer condo tower?

Most West Loop homes are condos — converted warehouse lofts and newer mid- and high-rises. That means concrete or heavy timber structure, building rules and shared systems shape what's possible.

Housing you'll commonly see

Converted loft buildings and newer condo towers dominate the residential stock, with relatively few detached houses. Every property is different, so treat this as context rather than a description of your home.

Concrete and drain locations

In many loft and high-rise buildings, drains are cast into or hung below concrete. Moving them may mean coring the slab and working in a neighbor's ceiling — often not allowed.

Industrial character

Exposed brick and large windows are appealing, but brick needs sealing or protection near water, and window detailing matters in wet zones.

Can I add a steam shower in my condo?

Steam requires a sealed enclosure, a generator and electrical capacity. Building approval is usually required.
